VIEW to host 10th Annual Chili Bowl Luncheon on Feb. 20

VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, will host the 10th Annual Chili Bowl Luncheon on Saturday, February 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. VIEW volunteers will serve homemade chili, stews, and soups prepared and donated by local restaurants.

The food that will be served in bowls from the Pottery Studio at VIEW as well as from many artists who deliver their bowls from towns nearby and as far away as Ithaca and Syracuse. This year the potters have made many styles of bowls featuring a variety of surface decorations.

Many of the potters who have been hard at work making the bowls for this event will also display their works in the Regional Ceramics Exhibition that will be on display from February 12 through March 12 at the arts center.

One of the participating local potters, Bette Rintrona, has been inspired to create pottery for over 30 years.

She is currently teaching hand building classes at VIEW and is an active volunteer.

She has also been busy coordinating the approximately 300 pottery contributions from local and regional artists.

Bowls can be purchased online by visiting ViewArts.org.

The Chili Bowl Luncheon will be held in Gould Hall. All proceeds will benefit VIEW.

During this year’s event, local photographer Susan Kiesel will present a slideshow of her wildlife and scenic images of the Adirondacks Mountains. The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. in room 210 at VIEW.

Admission to the presentation is free, however Kiesel has requested that participants bring a canned, boxed, or bagged food item to donate to the St. Bartholomew Church Food Pantry in Old Forge.
