Returning to Mexico: Inlet Community Church members to continue orphanage building mission

The Inlet Community Church group of 22 individuals who will be traveling to Mexico in March to assist with a mission to build an orphanage are planning upcoming fund-raising initiatives to assist with their efforts.

Representatives of the group will be selling raffle tickets at Old Forge Winter Carnival at McCauley Mountain on Saturday, February 6.

They will also be selling SaveAround Coupon books that provide discounts on meals, goods and services in the Utica/Rome area.

Donations of raffle items from local businesses will be gratefully accepted.

Billy’s Italian-American Restaurant in Old Forge will open its doors on Tuesday, February 9  to host a fund-raising dinner. Doors open at 5 p.m. and take-out orders are welcome.

Also, donation buckets for the cause are currently set up at local businesses including Kalil’s Grocery, The Tavern, Kinney Drugs, Randy’s Restaurant, and Screamen Eagle.

According to area volunteer John Swick, the group of volunteers, which includes men, women, teens and children, will spend March 19 through 26 in the Guadalupe Desert building a home for over 300 Mexican orphans currently living on the streets. They will also distribute groceries to over 350 families in one day.

Anyone wishing to donate to the orphanage, the food distribution day, or just make a general donation may contact Inlet Community Church directly at: P.O. Box 568, Inlet, NY 13360. Donations are tax deductible.
