VIEW announces variety of workshops for month of February

VIEW, a multi-arts center located in Old Forge, has announced its schedule of February workshops.

The Start with Art After School Program offers youth a place to gather with peers to practice their art in a fun, collaborative setting.

The program is free of charge and offered to students of Town of Webb School, Inlet Common School, and/or those who are homeschooled in the Old Forge and Inlet areas.

Projects will include a group mosaic, pottery (wheel-throwing and hand-building), painting, walking through the gallery, outside time for an environment-based project to gather ideas and objects, and more.

The classes are held for grades 3 to 5 every Wednesday starting February 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and for grades 6 to 9 every Thursday starting Febru-ary 4 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Ingrid Van Slyke will instruct a Winter and Wine: Sip and Paint class on Saturday, February 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres as you explore painting an Adirondack scene with the artist.

Barbara Green will instruct a beginner’s basket-making class open to ages 8 to adult on Monday, February 15 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will make a napkin basket that can be used as the title intends or to store a variety of items.

Create Silver Jewelry with instructor Robert Moore during a 6-week course designed for the aspiring jewelry artist. No experience is needed.

Students will learn basic techniques including sawing, texturing, and soldering through demonstrations and projects. Classes are held Thursdays, February 18 to March 31 from 6 to 9 p.m., with no class on March 17.

•  Create a woven bowl with a slotted oak base with instructor Barbara Green on Saturday, February 20 from 9 to 2 p.m.

Green will show participants how to incorporate multiple weaving techniques with a splash of color accent to create a functional piece to hold fruit, bread, or decorative items.

Bring your own lunch or grab a bowl of chili at the annual Chili Bowl Luncheon set for the same day.

• Learn to make a Mini Wall Pouch Basket with Linda Scherz Allen on Saturday, February 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Allen will show participants how to weave with a combination of flat oval reeds and a small hardwood handle for hanging.
