Herkimer County 4-H members participated in a 4-H Cake Decora-ting Workshop held at the Herkimer Reformed Church on Saturday, January 16th.
Twenty 4-H youths, from all over Herkimer County decorated a cake to take home and learned skills that they can display this fall at the Herkimer County Fair.
The workshop registration included a starter cake decorating kit with a decorating bag, and tips.
As the participants began using their new equipment, they learned that handling a decorating bag full of icing is not as easy as it looks.
The kids then practiced with templates on doing basic cake decorating skills such as making stars, a shell border, leaves and writing.
They also practiced making different types of flowers.
Among the participating 4-H members were Lydia Bartel and Darby and Fern Bick of Old Forge.
