Services held for Eileen Frances Tobin, 74

Tobin, EileenEileen Frances Tobin, 74, of Old Forge, died on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at her niece, Susanne and David’s home.

She was born on December, 14, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Francis and Leola Shillito Tobin. She graduated from North Carolina State College with a Bachelor’s Degree. Eileen was an active PE teacher in the Project Adventure program at R.C. Ketcham HS in Wappingers Falls, NY, and loved participating with the students in the outdoor adventures. She was loved by the children and was a teacher that made a difference in their lives.

Eileen was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church where she was part of the bible study. She was very active in the Old Forge Community and was part of the Central Adirondack Search and Rescue Team (CASART), Director of the Old Forge Food Pantry, President of the AARP, drove the van for Community Transportation Service (CTS) and taught aerobics to the seniors.

She also volunteered at the Niccolls Thrift Shop, the 4 a.m. watering of the flower baskets and also volunteered with the Red Cross after natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and the flooding in the state of New Jersey. Eileen was very proud to have received the Herkimer County Volunteer of the Year award for 2013.

She is survived by her three sisters, Susan Miniter and her husband, Richard of Stone Ridge, NY; Theresa Tobin of Boston; and Margaret Ernenwein and her husband, Gerald of Tupper Lake; 13 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held on Tuesday, December 22 at St. Bartholomew’s Church where a Funeral Mass was celebrated. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in the spring.  Arrangements were made by Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge.
