Physical Therapist, Dr. Joanne Maly, has announced a new physical therapy office to be opened on December 1st at the Old Forge Fitness Center on North Street.
The location will offer out-patient physical therapy services directed toward those that may have had total joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, knee surgery, or other procedures, Maly said.
The office will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will allow patients to be treated locally.
Maly also operates a physical therapy office in Barneveld.
Sports injury evaluations will also be offered, according to Maly.
Young people that get hurt while playing sports will be able to obtain a quick, local evaluation of their injury, and a recommendation for additional treatment, if necessary, Maly said.
This may include recommendations for x-rays or referrals to an orthopedic specialist, with arrangements being made quickly. “Usually within a day,” Maly said.
The Old Forge office will be a shared space with Marie Birtle, a local therapeutic massage professional, according to Maly.
A joint treatment offering will take place on Saturdays, with Maly performing deep myofascial work on patients followed by a therapeutic massage by Birtle.
Myofascial release is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain.
These impairments can be the result of overuse, trauma, infectious agents, inactivity or psychogenic disease.
Myofascial treatment aims to relax the contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex of muscles.
Joanne Maly is also announcing two new fitness classes in the local area.
A Beginner TRX Class will start on December 2 at Under The Sun Wellness, located south of Eagle Bay at the former Lanterns. The classes will be held Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. A yoga class, led by Kathy Queen, will follow for those interested.
A second Beginner TRX Class will be held at the Park Avenue Building in Old Forge on Mondays at about 5 p.m.
Both of these beginner level classes will be taught by Barbara Getty.
