Town of Webb UFSD School opens; parents should note changes to school calendar

It was a soggy start to the Town of Webb School year on Wednesday, September 7 with 288 students in grades kindergarten through 12th making a mad dash for the school’s open doors to avoid soaking their first-day finery.

Along with the excitement of the new school year came an announcement that some major changes had been made to the school calendar.

At the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting held on Tuesday, September 6, the Board approved new dates for the two-week Spring break.

School will not be in session from Monday, March 26 to Friday, April 6, 2012.

Students will return to school on Monday, April 9. The two-week NYS Testing Program will begin on Tuesday, April 17 and end on Thursday, April 26.

The first week will be English Language Arts testing and the second week will be Mathe-matics.

The district’s change in the originally scheduled spring break was necessary due to the recently announced changes in dates for required NYS spring testing.

The school was not notified of the testing dates by NYS until after the original calendars were printed and in the hands of parents.

Therefore the school calendars that were mailed out in August do not reflect the new changes.

Other than the change to the dates for spring break, parents should note the rescheduled dates of the school’s annual musical production and the Music Department’s New York City trip.

The production date will change from March 23 and 24 to March 16 and 17. The NYC Trip will be changed from March 28 to March 21.
