Republican Primary Kirsty Sutherland seeks Inlet Town Council seat

Kirsty Sutherland of Inlet is seeking a position on the Town of Inlet Council. A Republi-can, Sutherland will be challenging two-term Republican incumbent candidate Bill Faro in the Tuesday, September 13 primary.

An Inlet resident, Kirsty has worked in the area for over 20 years. Fifteen of those years have been devoted to her own personal businesses which includes Kirsty’s Red Dog Tavern, and most currently, Ozzie’s on Main Street in Old Forge.

Kirsty said her reasons for running for a town council seat are simple.

“I believe it’s important for residents to take an interest in their local government and get involved in the decision-making process—particularly decisions that will impact our quality of life. And I feel the time has come for me to get involved,” she said.

As a local business owner with daily direct affiliation with the public she feels she has a perspective that could be well-represented on the board.

“Throughout my business career I have had the opportunity to serve a mix of customers—visitors, part-time and full-time residents—who don’t hesitate to express their opinions and concerns on local issues. I believe I can be their voice on the board that will well represent those concerns,” she said.

Kirsty feels it’s important to keep an eye on spending and to be fiscally responsible so residents and property owners aren’t burdened with more taxes.

“As a mother, taxpayer, and homeowner in the Town of Inlet, I would like to see the village maintain its current way of life for growing families. It’s a great place to raise a family and I would like to see it continue as such for generations to come,” she said.

Kirsty lives in Inlet with her husband Eric, owner of Golden Acres Landscaping, and daughter Alex, a fifth grade student at the Inlet Common School.

Regardless of the outcome of the primary, Kirsty’s name will appear on the November 8 ballot under the Sunshine Party.
