Old Forge ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum slated September 1st

by Jerry Rutherford

A unique opportunity to meet Town of Webb and Herkimer County candidates, prior to the upcoming Primary, will be held Tuesday, September 1st in Old Forge.

Audience members will be able to hear their thoughts on critical issues and ask questions in an open forum.

The event is being sponsored by the Webb Property Owners Association (WPOA).

It will be held at The Park Avenue Building in Old Forge, at 183 Park Avenue.

The meeting will begin promptly at 7 pm. with the Herkimer County Sheriff candidates first on the agenda.

This forum is the first opportunity for property owners in the Town of Webb to identify names, and faces with a platform.

As fall approaches, many taxpayers relocate for the winter and in the past have been unable to see the field of candidates prior to the primary.

Sometimes these same taxpayers have a difficult time receiving the important information before voting.

This need for more communication was brought to the attention of WPOA Officers and Board of Directors during the summer.

All fifteen candidates registered with a petition have been invited to attend.

There are four candidates running for Sheriff (incumbent Christopher Farber, Daniel Reardon, Jim Palumbo, Tim Klock), two running for Supervisor (Robert Moore, H. Stuart deCamp), five running for two Town Council positions (incumbent James Herron, George Hiltebrant, David Berkstresser, Barbara Green, Bill Brooker).

Also running unopposed are Herkimer County Legislator Patrick Russell, Town Clerk Nanci Russell, Highway Superintendent Casey Crofut, and Tax Collector Kelly Hunkins.

At the time of the Primary, some of these candidates will be eliminated. Now is your opportunity to connect with the candidates, their platform, and be properly informed before the primary.

The following issues are a few that have been brought before WPOA Officers and Board of Directors for our candidates’ response: Need for Assisted Living in the corridor; improved health care, cell phone service and internet service, and the status of the Herkimer County Jail.

Please bring your questions and plan to attend this open question and answer forum.

This may be your only opportunity to learn more about the candidates and their platform before the Primary on September 10.

Light refreshments will be served.
