Old Forge Library to host annual Ad’k Storytelling & Music Fest

The Old Forge Library’s Adirondack Storytelling and Music Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 26 from 12 to 2 p.m. under the tent on the Forge Motel Knoll.

Award-winning musician, storyteller and author Joe Bruchac will host the event and will be joined by his son Jesse Bruchac, folksinger/songwriter Peggy Lynn and Adirondack Storyteller Bill Smith.

Joe Bruchac is an author who has written over 120 books for children and adults.

For over thirty years he  has been creating poetry, short stories, novels, anthologies and music that reflect his Abenaki Indian heritage and Native American traditions.

Jesse Bruchac, a musician whose specialty is the native flute, has worked extensively over the last 15 years in projects involving the preservation of the Abenaki language, storytelling, music and traditional culture.

Peggy Lynn, better known as “The First Lady of Adirondack Music,” is recognized nationwide for her soulful songwriting and extraordinary vocal versatility.

Her work has been featured at the famous Bluebird Café in Nashville, and in 1996 Peggy was selected “Adirondack Woman of The Year.” She has released six solo recordings and others with Dan Duggan and Dan Berggren.

Bill Smith is known throughout the Adirondacks and beyond as a master storyteller and balladeer.

He delights audiences everywhere with his repertoire of humorous tales that he learned from his father who was a logger, hunter and trapper and songs and poems that were taught to him by his mother.

All are welcome to bring a blanket or a folding chair and enjoy the performances.

The festival is funded by Central Adirondack Association (CAA), Mountain Greenery, The Strand Theatre, Touch of Ritz, and NYSCA: the Presenting Program with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature. Donations will be accepted and appreciated.
