Central Adirondack Sailing Association holds Fourth Lake races in heavy winds

by Liz Cowles

The Central Adirondack Sailing Association (CASA) continued its 2015 summer sailing season with two races on Saturday, July 18 near Inlet on Fourth Lake.

Seven boats started the race but only six were able to finish due to the strong winds.

Duffy Zornow, with his son Patrick as crew, were victorious in both races. Mark Steigerwald and John Jeffrey came in second and fourth in the two races.

Doug Smith with new crew, Sandra McCarley, had a fifth in the first race, but after learning a lot in the first race, captured a second place in the second race.

Paul Wilsey and Butch Hartsig finished the day with a third and fourth place.

Tom McCabe with crew Heather Pulver receive a third place and fifth place and Don Menz with crew Derrick Matthews had two sixth places.

CASA and Flying Scott Fleet 104, based on Fourth Lake, are excited to be hosting two special events this summer.

On Sunday, July 26, CASA will be hosting the annual Sunfish Regatta at Palmer Point at noon.

All Sunfish sailors are invited to come out and participate. Palmer Point is excited to be part of this Regatta, with the hopes of bringing back Sunfish racing on Fourth Lake.

No registration is required but we hope to see many sunfish sailors out on the water!

Secondly, Flying Scott Fleet 104 will be hosting the New York Lakes District Championship the weekend of August 15 with races on Saturday and Sunday.

The last time Fleet 104 hosted this event was in 1997 and the fleet is looking forward to bringing back this exciting round of races.

Up to 20 Flying Scots are expected from Fourth Lake as well as all over upstate NY.

The event will be based primarily out of the North Woods Inn area of Fourth Lake.

The regular racing season will continue through August 29 with two races every Saturday starting at 3 p.m. The only exception to this schedule will be the weekend of the District Championship on August 15.

All types of sailboats are welcome to join and Sunfish sailors are particularly encouraged.
