July 4th Weekend: Inlet festivities include annual Ping Pong Ball Drop

Jamie NotarthomasInlet’s Fourth of July celebration will begin at Fern Park with the annual Ping Pong Ball Drop at 1 p.m. This event brings hundreds of children up to age 12 to the park who will collect ping-pong balls that have been dropped onto the ball field.

There will be three separate drops for the different age groups. The children will then trade their ping-pong balls in for prizes donated by local businesses.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. enjoy the music of Jamie Notarthomas as he kicks off Inlet’s “Sunsets by the Lake” Summer Concert Series.

Notarthomas, a Syracuse-area native, has been a featured performer at many of the region’s premiere festivals, including the Blue Heron Festival, Grass Roots, Bethlehem Music Fest, Lilac Fest, Hookaville, and the Harvest Moon Jamboree.

He has also written and recorded ith a number of notable musicians such as Trey Anastasio, John Popper and 10,000 Maniacs.

He has pened for many greats including Bob Dylan, The Replacements, Melissa Ethridge, David Byrne, Rosanne Cash and Tori Amos.

At dusk, Inlet will set off a spectacular display of fireworks with the best view being from Arrowhead Lakefront.
