Otter Lake Assn: Author Jay O’Hern to speak at group’s June 27 meeting

The Otter Lake Association will hold its next monthly meeting on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at the new fire house on Route 28.

This month’s meeting will feature William “Jay” O’Hern, author and lecturer on the Adirondacks and its surroundings.

O’Hern’s  love  for the Adirondacks started more than 60 years ago when his family camped around Nicks Lake, Eighth Lake and Brown Tract Pond.

He has written a variety of books about the Adirondacks and the people who live there, with a special emphasis on the famed hermit, Noah John Rondeau and his friends.

“I feel a real obligation to the history of the Adirondacks and a need to record its history before it disappears,” O’Hern said.

He shares his passion for the history with the Town of Webb Historical Association, the Inlet Historical Society, at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and at the Great Camp Sagamore.

His most recent book, Spring Trout & Strawberry Pancakes, gives a look back to an Adirondack site, camp, and the people associated with it from the 1890’s to recent times.

Each chapter ends with appealing recipes that originated at each time period.

All are welcome to attend this, sure to be, interesting and informal presentation.
