Town of Webb senior Margaret “Maggie” Queen, 16, is a lifelong resident of Inlet, starting at the Town of Webb school in eighth grade.
In the fall, she is planning to attend SUNY Oswego to study Broadcasting and Journalism.
“I think there are a lot of good career opportunities in the field,” she said.
About three years ago, she had some hands-on experience in the field and put together some commercials at Barbizon Modeling School in Albany.
“You had to make up your own commercials, write your own script and perform it,” she said.
Her favorite class is English with her favorite teacher, Mr. Cunningham.
“I like Mr. Kinney a lot too; he’s really nice,” she said.
Maggie has stayed busy throughout high school, participating in a number of sports.
She has played soccer, golf, basketball, volleyball; she also downhill skied and ran cross-country. On the track team, she ran hurdles, sprints and relays.
“Soccer is my favorite,” she said.
She is member of Key Club, Varsity Club, and Travel Club.
Maggie has been a chorus member and participated in this year’s spring musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
Outside of school, she enjoys summer hiking and boating.
In the winter, she skis and snowmobiles. “I like to just hang out with my friends,” she said.
She doesn’t have a favorite genre of music. “I really like all kinds of music,” she said.
Kathy and BJ Queen are her parents. BJ owns and operates BJ Queen Enterprises, and Kathy is a Yoga teacher at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge.
She has a brother, Ryan who graduated from the Town of Webb school in 2011.
She has worked at Sisters Bistro in Old Forge for the past two summers.
Maggie’s mother and her friends have been her biggest influences.
“Their opinions on what I do, and how I do it matter,” she said.
She has four dogs, three cats and bird. “I’m going to miss them so much,” she said.
She said she doesn’t have single favorite memory.
“Generally, the whole Old Forge experience, we all just drive around in our cars, and see what’s going on and get together.”
Maggie is looking forward to graduation. “I am ready to get on with my life, outside of Old Forge,” she said.
“I am going to miss the people here, the most, when I leave Old Forge,” she said.
