VIEW announces spring workshops

Registration is now open for upcoming workshops at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge.

Marie Imundo, pottery instructor at VIEW, will lead a weekly Beginner to Inter-mediate Wheel Thrown Pottery class that will meet Mondays April 27 to June 1 from 6 to 9 p.m.

These classes are perfect for individuals who have never taken a pottery class before or for those who want to take their skills to the next level. 

Beginners will work on building fundamental skills; more experienced students will continue to build on those skills.

Different types of clay and properties ill be explained as well as a review of equipment and tools, and basic studio etiquette. Instruction will also include a hand-built project.

All works created will be glazed and fired.Space is limited to 10 students.

The fee is $175 or $155 for members of VIEW.

Carl Cuccaro is the instructor for an Introduction to Stained Glass: Create a Pine Tree Sun Catcher Workshop on Wednesday, April 29, 1 to 4 p.m. The fee is $45/$35 for members of VIEW.

All materials and tools are provided. The process will include an introduction to the fundamentals of pattern design and utilization: cutting, sizing and fitting various pieces of glass; and use of modern joining methods.

This workshop is for aspiring stained glass artists with little or no experience with this medium.

Cory Card, VIEW’s exhibition manager, will instruct Learning to See: An Intro-duction to Drawing, a six-week class being held on Tuesdays, May 5 to June 9 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Students will learn to sharpen their observational skills through the study of drawing. Concepts covered include slowing down, gesture drawing, creating space, light, shadow and form.

This course is designed for both beginner and intermediate levels and will be tailored to the student. The fee is $120/$90 for members of VIEW.

Robert Moore returns to lead the popular six-week class, Creating Silver Jewelry, that will meet on Tuesdays, May 5 to June 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. (No class on May 12 and June 9.)

This class is designed for the aspiring jewelry artist with little or no experience with this medium who would like to learn procedures, techniques, and special insights into creating original works of art involving silver.

Students will learn basic techniques including sawing, texturing, and soldering, through demonstrations and projects, as well as vocabulary and safety related to studio procedures.

The fee is $100/$75 for members of VIEW. There is a materials fee based on pieces created.
