Town of Webb Board of Education meets on February 17th

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, February 17, where it took the actions summarized as follows (not official minutes).

Approved the Minutes of February 3, 2015 Board of Education meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Accepted the Treasurer’s Report January 2015.

Appointed the 2014-2015 spring sports coaches:

Girls’ Varsity Softball, Travis Kiefer; Girls’ Modified Softball, Kristen Armendola; Boys’ Varsity Baseball, Douglas Riedman; Boys’ Modified Baseball, TBD; Coed Varsity Golf, John Ehrensbeck; Girls’ Varsity Track, Don Allen; Boys’ Varsity Track, Tim Leach; Volunteer to Assist Varsity Golf, Don Haehl; and Volunteer to Assist Varsity Baseball, Patrick Perkins.

Approved the 2015-2016 instructional school calendar, Option 1.

Approved the Committee on Special Education recommendations.

Approved the request from the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks for the use of a bus and driver on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Accepted the letter for purposes of retirement from Kirsten Down, Library Media Specialist, with regret and appreciation for her 28 years of service, effective June 30, 2015.

Approved the Town of Webb UFSD CSEA Sick Bank Commit-tee recommendation granting 1.75 CSEA Sick Bank days to Bonnie Tracy.

Principal’s ReportMr. John Swick submitted information regarding:

Our Senior Class hosted a Valentine activity/dance for students in grades 6-8 on Friday, February 13th.

Our Superintendent’s Confer-ence Day took place on February 17 involving Anne Bertram through the grants that we are involved in. We also had trainers from Model Schools help out to train the aides and support staff.

Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Alpine Ski Teams for winning the Section III title again.

Congratulations to the Girls Nordic Ski Team for winning the Section III title again and congratulations to the Boys Nordic Ski Team for taking second in the section.

Congratulations to our seniors, who just completed their final Volleyball or Basketball seasons. They will be missed!

Todd Green visited on February 11 to help train and align my faculty observations by spending the day visiting classrooms with me.

Our re-scheduled Parent-Teacher conferences for K–5 took place on Monday, February 9th.

The Kindergarten class visited Lakeside Terrace on Thursday, February 12, to share some valentines and singing with the residents.

The Studio Art class visited View on Friday, February 13, to evaluate and discuss the “Reality Check” Exhibition and Paradigm Shift – Visual Reflections by Robert Imundo.

Superintendent’s ReportMr. Rex Germer included the topics: 

We have posted on OLAS for the positions of Library Media Specialist and Math Teacher.

Both of these positions are posted and looking for a person that is potentially certified in multiple areas to allow us flexibility moving forward.

We will be posting more as we get job titles solidified.

The Civil Service tests for our business office position and the Office Assistant II have been scheduled. This will lead to final hiring for these positions.

Currently the Office Assistant II position is filled on a probationary status although we have the utmost confidence the current candidate will do fine on the test.

Technology building had frozen pipes today. The problem has been addressed through the town.

Reached out to Ted Riehle, Supervisor for the Town of Webb to discuss concerns regarding student, parent and community expanded services that are needed through our medical center.

Transportation/O&M committee met to discuss the roof project, bus purchases and trade in of Ford Explorer.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the library of the school.
