Central Ad’k Kiwanis announces winners of McCauley Mountain Snowshoe Classic

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks held its 15th Annual Kiwanis Winter Sports Challenge at McCauley Mountain on Saturday, February 14.

Traditional fund-raising cross-country ski and snowshoe treks helped to raise funds for various Kiwanis children’s projects and the Kommunity Youth Activity Center (KYAC).

In addition, the Kiwanis Club, Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company, McCauley Mountain Ski Area, and MSR Snowshoes jointly sponsored the 5th Annual McCauley Snowshoe Classic.

The winners of the Men’s 6K snowshoe race were: 1st – Jeremy Drowne (28.20); 2nd – Ken Burd (31.40) and 3rd – Jeff Walker (31.53).

The Women’s top finishers were: 1st – Rachel Yerden (37.34), 2nd – Tracey Westerlund (41.40), and 3rd – Nancy Martel (45.20).

First place winners received $200 in cash, second place winners received $100 in cash and prizes, and third place winners received $50 in cash and prizes.

The McCauley Snowshoe Classic took competitors through well––groomed cross-country trails and single track forest.

Race Director Bill Baumann and his committee thanks Mountainman Outdoor Supply Co. for marketing and prize support.

The race committee also thanks McCauley Mountain Ski Area for meticulous attention to the groomed areas, the Old Forge Polar Bear Ski Club for the use of their Nordic Yurt and the volunteers who worked to register the participants and prepare the course for the race.
