Online travelogue writer visits for local Adirondack adventure

Jeanette Lenoir, a broadcast reporter with WIBX-950 AM and an on-line Travelogue writer, was in the Old Forge area last Thursday through Monday to gather information for an upcoming travel destination article.

It was Lenoir’s second visit to the area following an invitation by Old Forge Publicity Director Mike Farmer to come and experience all it has to offer.

Several weeks prior to her current visit, Lenoir took a kayak trip with Tickner’s Moose River Canoe Trips and wrote about it on her Travelogue, “StayCations,” which is posted on the WIBX website and submitted to national and international news agencies.

According to Mike Farmer, CNN inquired about purchasing the rights to her piece about the kayak trip.

“Jeanette contacted me immediately following the trip and was adamant about returning to capture even more of what the area has to offer,” Farmer said.

Farmer outlined an itinerary for her, covering a wide variety of culture, recreation, food and relaxation, and served as her guide during her stay.

Lenoir and her partner, Patrick McGowan, started their long weekend last Thursday evening at Van Auken’s Inne, with dinner and Music on the Porch.

On Friday they stayed at Northwoods Inn on Fourth Lake.

Then, bright and early Saturday morning, their activities began with Yoga and Paddling, led by Nanette Shovea-Burke at Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company.

Lenoir also interviewed Mountainman’s bike manager, Chad Hiat, who took them on a bike excursion around the Fulton Chain to Inlet and back.

They were outfitted with trail bikes and biked out to Carter Station on the Snowmobile Trail System.

Farmer, of course, rode along with them.

Other activities included horseback riding with John Evans at Adirondack Saddle Tours and a tour of View and the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari.

Lenoir also interviewed Mirnie Kashiwa, Kathy Rivet of Five Corners Café, and Scott Locorini of Adirondack Exposure about fishing excursions in the Central Adirondacks.

Due to her 6 a.m. broadcasts on WIBX she was unable to stay longer, but according to Farmer, she insists she will return at a later date to visit Goodsell Museum “to get a better grasp of the area’s history,” McCauley Mountain, and take a boat tour on the lake.

She would also like to revisit The Enchanted Forest.

“I had no idea that the park (Enchanted Forest) was such a beautiful place for all ages, and how green it is with all the trees—like a little forest,” she said.

“She was ‘enchanted’ with the whole place (Enchanted Forest) and is interested in writing the back story about the circus and the park itself. She’s very active and it was an excellent opportunity to address our recreational opportunities. She really puts people on the scene,” Farmer said.
