Bruce K. Ellis of Old Forge passed away on his celebrated birthday, February 15, at the age of 95. Bruce and his late wife Jean made their home at Fourth Lake and Old Forge for the past 20-plus years.

Bruce was born in Syracuse, NY, on February 23, 1920. He graduated from Valley Forge Military College in June 1941, and entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Bruce married Jean, the love of his life, on April 30, 1949, and moved to Canastota, NY, to make their home and raise their children. After a military medical discharge, he went to work for the Bell Aircraft Company in Niagara Falls, NY.

He was a member of the 74th N.Y. Guard in Buffalo, the Williamsville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Bachelor of Arms Club of Williamsville, NY.

In Canastota, Bruce was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as deacon and trustee. He was a member of the Canastota Volunteer Fire Department, and past president of the Canastota Civil Club.

Bruce worked at the family’s lumber company, was President of Ellis Motor Car Company, and moved to Oneida and worked for Seelbach and Schmitt Company as a manufacturing representative.

He was also a member of the Oneida Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and trustee, and a member of the Kanon Valley Golf Club.

After retirement, Bruce worked for Birnie Bus Company of Rome, NY, was a member and past director of the Griffiss Ski Club, and a member of the 80+ International Ski Club.

After moving to Old Forge, Bruce was a member of the Town of Webb Planning Board, and worked part time for the Van Slyke Construction Company and the Old Forge Hardware store.

Bruce also volunteered for the Town of Webb Health Center Fund Office.

Bruce is survived by his daughter PK Ellis and husband Robert Laurence of Arkansas; daughter Patricia Kerr and husband Barry of Napier, New Zealand; daughter Penny Carnevale and husband Ralph of Newfane, VT; son Bruce K. Ellis, Jr. of Old Forge, NY; daughter Lisa M. Ellis and fiancé Richard Raymond of Verona, NY; two grandchildren, Keith Carnevale and wife Robyn of Burlington, VT, and granddaughter Abby Carnevale of New York City, NY; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Ellis Carnevale and Graham Otto Carnevale.

He is also survived by his brother’s wife, Patrina, of Inlet, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Ellis.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Niccolls Presbyterian Church, Old Forge on Monday, February 23, at 11 a.m., and a reception immediately following at the Old Mill Restaurant, Old Forge.
