Donna Myers of Old Forge will be raising funds for the American Heart Association by taking part in Utica’s Great American Heart Run & Walk that will include an indoor walk on Saturday, February 28 and the traditional outdoor event on Saturday, March 7.
Myers and her team will participate in the indoor event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Fitness Mill in New York Mills. All are welcome to join the team, she said.
This will mark the 14th year of Myers’ participation in the walk, which she started when her mother Midge began experiencing heart problems.
Her mother succumbed to heart disease, as did four of her mother’s five siblings. Donna herself was diagnosed with a heart condition four years ago.
Team Zimmer, named in honor of her mother’s family, will include family members traveling from Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Colorado, Kansas and Virginia in support of the cause.
Additionally, Team Zimmer will be walking in honor of local residents John Hopsicker and Dan Hitchcock who passed away recently.
Anyone wishing to support the team with a donation can send checks made payable to American Heart Association to: Donna Myers, P.O. Box 976, Old Forge, NY 13420. Online contributions can be made at: uticalheartrunwalk.org. Go to Team Zimmer and find Donna Myers.
