Businesses and individuals in the Towns of Webb and Inlet are invited to enter the inaugural Snow Sculpture Competition that will be held during the Old Forge Winter Carnival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Febuary 13, 14 and 15.

The winner will receive gift certificates from local businesses and attractions. Hans Schmid and his family, the creators and judges of the event, will announce the winner following the Town of Webb USFD Junior Class Cardboard Sled Race at McCauley Mountain on Sunday.

Hans and his family have carried on the tradition of his father, the late Walter Schmid, by building a snow sculpture in the front yard of their home on Route 28 in Thendara.

Walter was known to delight residents and visitors with the sculptures he created in front of his South Shore Road business, Inlet Ski Touring Center.

The entry fee is $20 per snow sculpture with proceeds directed to the Tayler Schmid Memorial Fund.

Registration forms are available at the Old Forge Visitor Information Center. Registration forms can be mailed to: Hans Schmid, P.O. Box 143, Thendara NY 13472.

Checks can be made payable to the Tayler Schmid Memorial Fund.

Contest rules are as follows: sculptures must be constructed entirely of snow and ice. Decorations are permitted. Tunnels or any passageway that hinders stability of structure is not recommended. Sculptures must be in good taste and family-friendly and should not obstruct access to property, sidewalks or roads.
