Riehle, Snead to discuss local Route 28 projects with the DOT

Town supervisors Ted Riehle of Webb, and Parker Snead of Forestport, have been invited to discuss upcoming road projects in the area.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 3, at the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) office in Utica.

Riehle said that he and Snead were invited by DOT Region 2 Director Barbara Mattice.

“The DOT is planning public announcements regarding projects in the area,” Riehle said.

In advance of those announcements, Director Mattice wanted to discuss the projects with municipal representatives from affected areas, Riehle said.

The Town of Webb’s primarily concern is with the McKeever bridge project, that is scheduled to resume in 2015, according to Riehle.

Crews will again be working through the summer, when traffic to and from Old Forge is at its peak.

The project will have McKeever bridge traffic again being reduced to single lane flow.

It will be regulated using three-color signal lights.

Riehle said he hopes to get assurances from the DOT that traffic snarls will be anticipated and circumvented—which wasn’t always the case in 2014.

A second project in 2015 involves the pavement resurfacing of Route 28, from Old Forge to Eagle Bay.

Riehle said the DOT is expected to outline the extent of the work and a timeframe for its completion, at the February 3 meeting.
