Old Forge: VIEW announces holiday week workshops, classes

VIEW, the multi-arts center located in Old Forge, is offering a variety of fun and educational workshops and classes for all levels of experience over the upcoming holiday week.

Yoga classes will be held Friday and Saturday, December 26 and 27 at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $7 for members of VIEW, or $10 for nonmembers.

Kathy Queen, certified Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga™ instructor, will lead a Chair Yoga class on Friday, December 26 and Saturday, January 3 at 11 a.m. Complicated maneuvers and complex movements are not present in a chair yoga class. The fee is $7 for members of VIEW, or $10 for nonmembers. 

Tie Dye a Snowflake on a T-shirt or Pillowcase at a workshop on Saturday, December 27 from 9 to 10 a.m. Instructions and all materials are supplied. A pre-soaked shirt or pillowcase is folded, scrunched and/or twisted. he pattern of the folds and placement of the dyes dictates the resulting design of a snowflake. A fun family or group activity. Fees range from $12 to $15.

Paint on Pottery Open Studio will be held Saturday, December 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Reservations are suggested for this popular activity. No experience is needed and it’s suitable for all ages.

Choose a piece of bisque and start painting. Paints, brushes, and assistance is provided. Your piece will be fired in the kiln and ready to pick up the following afternoon. All materials used are nontoxic, dishwasher-, microwave-, and oven-safe. Price per piece ranges from $3 to $25.

Express yourself in glass at a Fused Glass Night Light workshop on Saturday, December 27 from 1 to 2 p.m. No glass experience is needed to create a one-of-a-kind fused glass night light. Suitable for all ages, however children under 10 will be restricted to pre-cut glass.

Using various shapes, colors, and types of glass create a one-of-a-kind night light. Pieces are fired in  the kiln overnight and will be available for pickup the following afternoon. The fee for this workshop is $15 for members of VIEW, or $18 for nonmembers.

Learn to make a Woven Bowl Basket at a workshop on Monday, December 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Create a basket with a pretty inside finish by incorporating a slotted base, combination of flat and round smoked and natural reed, and chase weave.

The workshop is suitable for high school age and up. Participants are asked to bring a lunch and drink. Refrigerator and microwave are available. The fee is $60/$50 members plus a $25 materials fee payable to the instructor.

Barbara Green of Adirondack Green House Basketry will lead a Beginner’s Basketry Class on Tuesday, December 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class is suitable for ages 10 and up. The fee is $20 for members and $15 for nonmembers of VIEW plus a $10 materials fee.

Space is limited and advanced registration is required for most workshops.
