38th Snodeo Fun-filled family weekend to kick off 2014 sled season

The snowmobile trail system in the Towns of Webb and Inlet officially open on Monday, December 8 and will be celebrated at the 38th Annual Snodeo, the traditional kick-off event of the snowmobile season on Friday through Sunday, December 12, 13 and 14.

Sponsored by the Central Adirondack Association, Snodeo will be held at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street which will be filled with sleds, gear and accessories that will appeal to snowmobile enthusiasts of all ages.

Representatives from the four major manufacturers—Arctic Cat, Polaris, Ski Doo and Yamaha—will be on-hand with their 2015 models.

Additional vendors will be on-site with winter snowmobile related apparel, gear and gifts, offering holiday shopping opportunities.

Food and beverages will be provided by the Northwoods Women’s Club.

Snodeo will be open Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Vintage Snowmobile Show & Swap Meet will begin at 10 a.m. with awards presented in 17 different categories at 2 p.m.

At noon, the Kitty-Kat and 120cc youth snowmobile races, sponsored by Old Forge Camping Resort, begin behind the pavilion. Registration starts at 10 a.m.

All children must be equipped with proper protective gear such as helmets and boots. The knees of the racers should not reach the sled’s handlebars.

Trophies and commemorative will be awarded following the races.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a visit from 1 to 4 p.m. Every hour, door prizes donated by area businesses and vendors will be given away.

The evening culminates with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.

Snodeo will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. t approximately 1 p.m., raffle drawings begin with the 2014 Polaris Indy 120 youth snowmobile.

Tickets are $5 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. Proceeds support the youth snowmobile races.

A drawing will also take place for a new 2015 snowmobile and cash prizes.

A lucky winner will have their choice of one of the following sleds: 2015 Arctic Cat ZR 600 LXR ES from Big Moose Arctic Cat; 2015 Polaris Rush AXYS Pro S-600 with electric start from Don’s Polaris; 2015 Ski Doo MXZ TNT 600 HO ETEC from Smith Marine; or $10,000 towards the Yamaha of their choice from Big Moose Yamaha.

Other prizes include $1,000 cash for second, $500 cash for third, $300 cash for fourth, and $100 each for fifth and sixth prizes. Only 1,500 tickets will be sold.

Cash prize winners must be present to win. Tickets are $20 each with only 1,500 sold.

Raffle tickets will be available at Snodeo all weekend long.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Old Forge Visitor Informa-tion Center. Snodeo offers free admission, free parking, free shuttle bus service on Saturday, and plenty of snowmobile excitement for the whole family.
