VIEW: ‘Sound of Music’ performance to feature critically acclaimed actress

OENBRINK_CAITLYN_3734_ret2 copyVIEW will bring the classic musical, The Sound of Music, to Gould Hall for a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday, December 7.

The production will be performed live by Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts and features local and professional actors, including the critically acclaimed Caitlyn Oenbrink who will portray Maria, the lead character of the timeless story.

The performance will mark Oenbrink’s first return to the Adirondacks since her lead roles in As You Like It and The Cherry Orchard which were presented Park-wide by ALCA last summer.

Oenkirk received rave reviews for her December 2013 portrayal of Marian the librarian in The Music Man at The Redhouse Arts Center in Syracuse.

Under the direction of former ALCA director Steve Svoboda, she earned a Leading Actress of the Year nomination at the 2014 annual SALT (Syracuse Area Live Theater) awards.

She currently resides in New York City.

The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse won the 1960 Tony Award for Best Musical.

It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

Many songs from the musical have become standards, including Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, and the title song The Sound of Music.
