Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education meets November 4

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, November 4, where it took the following actions, which are summarized and do not represent official minutes.

Approved the Minutes of October 21, 2014.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the recommendations of the Committee on Special Education.

Approved the appointment of Long Term Substitute – Michael Kermizian.

Approved the use of a bus and driver by the CAA on Saturday, December 13, 2014 for Snodeo.

Accepted the bid for: one -4 drawer file cabinet and one -3 drawer file cabinet for $5.00 each from Paul Giessler.

Principal’s Report Mr. John Swick submitted information regarding:

Congratulations to Tim Leach for winning the MORIC Technology Award for the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES region.

Karen Thornton, 7th grade ELA student of Megan Pfeifer, won the Utica Observer Dispatch’s 4th annual Halloween story contest for grade 7.

As requested by the paper, Karen also visited the Utica O-D and was recorded reading her winning story, which is now posted on their website!

The Fall Sports Awards took place Monday, November 3, at 6:30 p.m. under the direction of Varsity Club advisor, Dave Leach, and Varsity Club President, T. McGough. Tim Leach put together the photograph slide show on the big screen.

The NHS Blood Drive took place Monday, November 3, under the direction of NHS advisor, Kandis Griffin, and NHS President, M. Rockhill.

Mr. Cunningham and a team of five students will be traveling to the Wild Center on Wednesday and Thursday, November 12-13, as part of a Climate Summit.

They will be meeting with over 20 other high schools, colleges, and universities.

Students will be hearing research-based information about the economic and ecological consequences of climate change, learning strategies to respond to climate change in the Adirondacks and in the process save their schools and communities money, develop a carbon and cost reduction plan to bring back to their school and community, and benefit through increased knowledge and development of leadership skills.

The next PTC meeting is Wednesday, November 12 at 6pm in the Distance Learning Lab.

The PTC elected officers at their first official meeting: Sara Alves – President, Katie Langworthy – Vice President, Amber LaFountain – Treasurer, and Kim Rieth – Secretary.

Superintendent’s Report Mr. Rex Germer included the topics: 

The application to accept F-1 Visa students is officially filed with the Federal Dept. of Homeland Security.

The process is predicted to take up to 10 months and includes a site visit.

The Regents are looking for feedback regarding the decision they are likely to adopt in January regarding allowing students to take a different path as a replacement for one of the currently required 5 Regents exams.

Congratulations to all of our student athletes for their commitment and successes experienced during the Fall sports season.

We culminated the season with our sports awards last night which is a true testament to the level of participation in athletics we see in the District.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.
