Town of Webb Supervisor Ted Riehle has announced that a project is ongoing to start a Senior Activities program in Old Forge.
This is partially the result of the Town of Inlet’s Senior program having recently been discontinued.
The Inlet program had been operated by the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL).
Councilwoman Mary Brophy Moore has been instrumental in spearheading the effort to start a program in the Town of Webb.
She will be meeting with the Town of Webb Health Center Fund Board on Thursday, she said.
She will be giving a presentation and requesting support.
Niccolls Memorial Presby-terian Church has already come on board, agreeing to provide their church building as a venue.
The amount for the program in the 2015 proposed budget is less than $8,000, said Supervisor Riehle.
These monies will primarily fund staff needed to conduct the program, according to Riehle.
“We are looking at an eight-week timeframe [for starting the program],” he said.
Councilwoman Moore said she is talking with Inlet Supervisor John Frey, to learn about the RCIL program the town hosted, and how aspects of it can be adapted for the Town of Webb.
Frey said Inlet is trying to obtain Hamilton County support to help restore a senior program, according to Moore.
Even if that were to occur, there may be an opportunity for Inlet and Webb to partner on a senior program, Moore said.
“The same person that would conduct the Webb program at Niccolls may be able to do a day in Inlet as well,” she said. “This could be in addition to RCIL or instead of.”
Moore said she plans to talk further with Supervisor Frey.
“So we’re moving forward,” she said.
