The 35th annual James E. Nunn Memorial Golf Tournament, one of the longest running charity golf tournaments in Central New York, was held at the Inlet Golf Club on Monday, September 8th.
The tournament honors the memory of Jim Nunn, a longtime seasonal Eagle Bay Park resident who passed away in 1979.
Friends and family continue his legacy of generosity and support of local organizations and services by raising funds during the outing.
In keeping with the tradition of the tournament, the 70-plus participants enjoyed 18 holes of golf without interruption due to adverse weather conditions.
The tournament was followed by a dinner at Mulligan’s where awards were distributed and recipients of funds announced.
The benefactors, each receiving checks in the amount of $500, were the St. Bartholomew’s Church Food Pantry, Inlet Volunteer Ambulance, Inlet Public Library, Big Moose Ambulance, Eagle Bay Fire Department, and Nazareth College, in memory of the Nunn family’s close friend, Judith Gagan.
Also receiving funds was the Roland Christy Memorial Scholarship Fund. And in a special tribute, Roland was posthumously honored with the group’s “Bud Birnie Good Guy Award,” which is presented annually to an individual who best exemplifies the generous nature of the late Martin “Bud” Birnie.
“Roland was the starter of the tournament ever since the beginning, and beyond that, taught many of the participants how to golf. He was always so gracious and such an inspiration…he is truly missed,” said co-organizer Pat Nunn.
The award will be on display at the Inlet Club House.
