An opening reception for the Old Forge Library’s latest exhibit, Main Street and More, featuring the work of award-winning artist Gordon Bashant, will be held Friday, August 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the First Friday Art Walk.
There will be light refreshments and acoustic music by Dan Vellone.
The exhibit will feature Bashant’s new paintings of the Old Forge area as well as paintings from his travels.
A resident of San Diego and a summer resident of Old Forge, he began painting 20 years ago following his retirement from surgical practice in Utica.
He got his start after taking watercolor classes at Munson Williams Proctor Institute and continued studies after his move to the west coast.
Bashant works primarily in transparent watercolor but also does some work in acrylics and mixed media. His style is expressionistic but based on realism.
The exhibit will be on display through August 23rd.
