In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of President Benjamin Harrison’s inauguration and the Harrison exhibit at the Goodsell Museum, the Old Forge Post Office will host a special postmark cancellation event on Thursday, July 10th.
President Harrison had a summer retreat on the Fulton Chain and was instrumental in establishing the mail boat service.
Postal personnel will set up a temporary post office at the Old Forge Lake Cruises boat dock at 1 p.m. to conduct the postmark cancellation.
A postal clerk will apply the postmark to any item bearing first class postage.
The Town of Webb Historical Association will offer a special envelope with a depiction of President Harrison and the hand cancellation for $5.
If you cannot attend but would like an envelope you can contact the Historical Association at (315) 369-3838 or towebbhistorical@gmail.com.
