Letter to the Editor Fed up with the horrible condition of Route 28 north? Sound off to officials!

Dear Editor:

If you live on Route 28 or travel to and from Old Forge to Inlet, you too must be appalled by the road conditions.

Trying to avoid the holes and huge spaces where the asphalt is missing is a challenge and dangerous.

Since the snow went out, I have been driving the road at 30 MPH or lower.

I assumed something would be done about this section of the state highway. Am I mistaken?

I recently spent over $900 getting my car repaired at Thendara Garage. Most of that was on parts, and the owner of the garage told me the repairs were necessary for my safety and indeed caused by the road conditions.

How many other residents or summer visitors will have these large bills and maybe more?

Part of this section of Route 28 (near Rondaxe Road) was resurfaced only a few years ago (maybe three), and some of this is the very worst.

The section of the road closer to Hollywood Hills Road is also terrible. In past years this was repaired in May.

Are the local officials calling Albany and speaking on our behalf?

The governor talks about balanced budgets and lowering deficits, but what is the point if we have to put up with this road and pay huge car repair bills?

We all need to be calling any or all of the following:

• Webb Town Supervisor Ted Riehle at 369-3121.

• Barbara Mattice at (315) 793-2447 (NYS Department of Transportation, Regional Director in Utica)

• Sharon Heyboer at (315) 793-2447 (NYS DOT, Assistant Director)

• Bob Rice at (315) 793-2467 (NYS DOT Regional Transporta-tion, Maintenance Engineer)

• Mike Murphy at (315) 732-8032 (NYS DOT, Resident Engineer)

• NYS Assemblyman Marc Butler at (315) 866-1632

Join me today in making our voices heard.

Cordially,

Anne Garbarino
