Town of Webb Board of Education holds meeting on June 3rd

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m., where it took the actions summarized as follows (not official minutes).

Approved the Minutes of May 21, 2014 meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recom-mendations.

Approved the Board of Education Meeting Calendar for 2014-2015 school year.

Approved David Leach as Athletic Director for 2014-2015

Accepted the Agreement with Catholic Charities for substance abuse counseling for the 2014-2015 school year.

Approved the Education Course Credit Requests as submitted by Robert Fountain.

Appointed Madeline Fenton as the Summer Program Teacher.

Approved the Outside Bus Use as requested by the Summer Recreation Program.

Appointed Chelsea Hanford and Mackenzie Smith as substitute teachers and teacher aides.

Approved combining Coopers-town Central HS Nordic Ski Team with the Town of Webb UFSD (host) at the modified level for the 2014–2015 school year.

Appointed coaches for 2014-2015:  

John (Louie) Ehrensbeck, Boys’ Varsity Soccer; David Leach, Girls’ Varsity Soccer; Travis Kiefer, Boys’ JV Soccer; Robert Fountain, Girls’ Junior Varsity Soccer; Kristen Armendola, Girls’ Modified Soccer; Kevin Kress, Boys’ Modified Soccer; Tim Leach, Coed Cross-Country Running and Modified Cross Country. 

Appointed Emily Herrmann as 2014 Elementary Summer Music Program Instructor

Approved the Outside Bus Use as requested by View Arts for “A Tasty View at Albedor” June 14, 2014.

Principal’s Report: 

The Webb Way Drug and Alcohol Free After Prom Party was put on for students at Calypso’s Cove on Saturday 5/31.

Thank you to all who donated to support this event including Water Safari, TOW Police Benevolent Association, MAC’s Safe Ride, Wal-Mart of Lowville, and Inlet Community Church for their generosity. We had 35 students attend the event.

Jed Kinney and the Student Council did a terrific job decorating, setting up, and taking down for the Prom on Saturday night hosted at View.

E. Hoffman was the section III champion for the Girls 100m hurdles. Miss Hoffman competed in the Open Qualifier and earned a 7th place finish in the Division 2 race of the 100 hurdles.

On Thursday, 5/29 Kandis Griffin organized a panel of seven college students (alumni of the TOW UFSD) to speak with our 11th and 12th grade students about college and transitioning out of high school.

Key Club and their adviser, Mrs. Amos, joined together for a successful fundraiser CAR WASH on Saturday, 5/25.

Our 8th grade students under the direction of Mrs. Amos, Mr. Bradish, Nurse Boesche, Mrs. Herrmann, Mr. Kinney, Mrs. Phinney (Miss Holt) and Mr. Petty re-enacted the Civil War on Thursday, 5/22. Thank you to all who participated.

Our Jr./Sr. High Spring Choral Concert on Wednesday, 5/28 and K-5 Elementary Spring Choral Concert under the direction of Ms. Gaudin provided wonderful performances.

Robert Fountain, K-12 Art Instructor, along with Timothy Leach conducted a Field Trip to Woodcraft for the instruction of Native American Pit Firing of ceramics.

The NYS 4th and 8th grade science written exams were administered on Monday, 6/2 to students.

Two Regents were administered on Tuesday, 6/3:  Inte-grated Algebra I (Common Core) and English Language Arts (Common Core).

The sports awards were hosted Monday night, 6/2 in the gym to celebrate our spring sports achievements as well as the seniors finishing up their high school athletics.

The projector and screen that were purchased through a grant with Fastrac were utilized to showcase photos from throughout the year of our student-athletes.

Superintendent’s Report included the topics: 

The “freak hail storm” we had a couple of weeks ago caused a flood in the basement outside of the Aux Gym including the storage areas, hallway, staff room and also to the guidance office.

We had the architect in to look at this as well as the insurance adjustor.

Thank you to all those individuals and businesses that donated to help make our After Prom Party the success that it was specifically to Calypso’s Cove for again allowing our students to use their facility during the event.

Water intrusion also occurred into a classroom related to a roof issue. The roof will have to be addressed prior to our larger planned project and we are looking to expedite a roof replacement in the near future.
