Memorial Day thanks from Inlet

The American Legion Post 1402 and the Town of Inlet would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2014 Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. SAM_0622

The weather was great for the one-mile march from the Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services building to Arrowhead Park.

The Inlet Youth Commission handed out red, white and blue helium balloons to the spectators lining the street downtown and made sure those who marched had water to drink.SAM_0633

Represented in the parade were: American Legion Post 1402 & Post 893, American Legion County Commander, Hamilton County Supervisors, Hamilton County Sheriffs, Eagle Bay Rescue, Long Lake Fire Department, Indian Lake Fire Department & Marching Squad, Raquette Lake Fire Department, Hamilton County Public Health Nursing Service, Town of Webb High School Band, Long Lake High School Band, Indian Lake High School Band, Inlet Common School, and One Square Mile of Hope.

Thank you to the Town of Webb for allowing us to utilize your band shell for the ceremony that followed the parade.

Master of Ceremonies Bruce Gribneau did a fine job presenting the short program, which included a welcome from American Legion Post 1402 Commander Paul Chambers, an introduction of the Hamilton County Supervisors by Inlet Supervisor John Frey, a notable mention by American Legion Hamilton County Commander Ken Cannan, a memorable speech by Guest Speaker Lt. Gerard Dupuis, and performances by the Town of Webb High School Band and the Long Lake High School Band.

TAPS was performed by Tyler Rudolph and Macgregor Ritz-Kenny of Webb. Special thanks to the American Legion Color Guard and Firing Squad of Post 893. Father Shane Lynch gave us a blessing for this day.

The Town of Long Lake helped supply hot dogs and burgers for the band members after the ceremony. Thank you to Ed “The Butcher” Meelan for performing TAPS during the morning wreath laying ceremonies in Inlet and Raquette Lake.

And thank you to the Town of Inlet Police Department, Parks Department, Information Office and Highway Department for working together to make things run smoothly on this day and leading up to it.

Adele Burnett,

Inlet Tourism Director
