Nivea Sarabia, 84 passes away in Florida

Nivea Sarabia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. She was born on January 6, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Agripina Diaz and Francisco Sarabia.  NIVEA

She spent her youth between Mexico City and Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. She married Burton Nelson Deis in February of 1952, then moved to Old Forge, NY, where she spent the next 40 years. Nivea moved to Lee County, Florida in 1995 to be closer to her daughters.

She is survived by her five children: Elizabeth (Owen) Lopez and Bernadette Deis of Cape Coral, FL; Burton Frank (Sue) Deis of New Hartford, NY; Helen (Jim) Styn of Palm Bay, FL and Thomas (Katie) Deis of Lansing, NY; nine grandchildren: Victoria Nivea, Abigail, Angelina, Sarah, Emma, Natasha, Gerald, Daniel and Natalie; and two great-grandsons, Michael Owen and Christopher Clark.

She loved being able to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to the movies and shopping with her granddaughters!

Per Nivea’s wishes, there will be no service or memorial as she wanted to be remembered by each person the way they last saw her alive—whether it was one day ago or 25 years ago.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, 3760 Fowler St., Fort Myers, FL 33901 or online at: harrychapinfoodbank.org.
