Herkimer & Hamilton counties: State budgets for local pothole repair

With warm weather on its way, we’ll be seeing our local road crews out fixing our roads and potholes.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that our roads are in very poor condition. The especially long and frigid winter we’ve experienced took its toll on our local roads, creating many potholes and other weather-related damage.

Local municipalities and county governments are already struggling with tight budgets, and I was worried about how they would be able to cope with this additional burden.

I am pleased to announce that in the 2014-15 Enacted State Budget, I was able to help secure nearly $3 million in local highway funding to help pay for pothole repair.

Included in local share of pothole repair funds are:

• $108,798 for Hamilton County

• $567,194 for Herkimer County.

It’s important for our communities to be able to maintain roads and local highways to keep them safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Well-maintained roads and infrastructure are important not only for safety, but also for economic and community development.

Enjoy the spring weather and be mindful of the good men and women who are fixing our roads.

If you have questions or comments about aid to local governments or any other legislative matter, I want to hear from you. I can be reached at my Herkimer office at 315-866-1632 or at butlerm@assembly.state.ny.us.
