Ad’k Center for Writing Twitchell Lake announced as residency program site

The Adirondack Center for Writing will host its first annual Writer Residency program at Twitchell Lake from October 4 through 11th.

Anne LaBastille

Anne LaBastille

The residency opportunity was provided by the estate of Anne LaBastille, who authored many books, including Woodswoman and Beyond Black Bear Lake, from her cabin on Twichell Lake. Participants will paddle out to visit her cabin at least once during the week.

The motive of this residency is to provide space, time, and an inspiring landscape for regional and outside writers to work on their writing projects, a chance to unplug and connect with other writers, and to tap into their personal creativities. There will be no internet or cell-phone at the residency. Rooms are single occupancy with private baths and food will be provided.

Applications will be accepted online through Submittable, a link provided on the website: adirondackcenterforwriting.org. Print applications will not be accepted. For questions on your submission, please contact acwevents@gmail.com with the subject line “Residency.”

Fiction and non-fiction writers must include 10 pages of double-spaced manuscript along with their applications. Poets are asked to send up to 10 poems. Quality of written submissions will be of primary consideration when accepting applications.

The residency will be open to six writers with three spaces for writers from the region, and three from elsewhere. Writers in any genre will be considered for acceptance.

Applications will be accepted through online submission form from April 15 through May 15th. Late applications will not be considered. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by July 15th.

References are not requested, however they can be included when sending writing samples to: Adirondack Center for Writing, P.O. Box 956, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

Application fee is $25. Once selected, the residency is free. More information is available by calling (518) 354-1261 or email: acwevents@gmail.com.

The Adirondack Center for Writing is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
