The Town of Webb Union Free School District has received a donation from Gary Kunath to pay all costs associated with the proposed placement of a large boulder, brass plaque, flag pole and planting at the Park Avenue baseball field, which has been renamed in honor of the late Kyle Riedman.
Kunath, an Atlanta resident with a strong connection to the Riedman family, approached the school with an idea for a memorial, according to Superintendent of Schools Rex Germer.
The board approved the renaming of the field and establishment of the memorial.
Kyle Riedman had been standout athlete during his Old Forge playing days, with a particular affinity for the sport of baseball.
A sign reading “Kyle Riedman Memorial Field” will be erected to welcome future spectators and athletes to the venue.
This sign is included as part of the donation, which will pay for all costs associated with the memorial project, including materials, site work and installation.
Mr. Kunath’s donation was accepted by the district’s Board of Education at its meeting on Tuesday, April 1.
