NYS Dept. of Transportation hotline set up for reporting local pot holes

Sun, rain, sleet, snow and ice can turn increasingly crowded roadways from smooth to rough and tumble. Fluctuating weather conditions have created pot holes on local roads and most evident on Route 28 between Old Forge and Eagle Bay.

So what do you do to call attention to the potentially hazardous situation?

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) can help you steer clear of these hazards with its year-round, toll-free hot line at 1.800.POTHOLE (1.800.768.4653) to report potholes on the state’s highway systems, including the Thruway.

The line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All calls will be routed to the appropriate NYSDOT region or Thruway personnel for action. To help road crews, callers should provide the following information:

• The community or county where the pothole is located

• The state route or interstate number

• Closest reference marker and exit numbers

• Direction of travel

• Nearest landmark or crossroad

If you want to be notified when repairs are completed, you may provide your name and address when you call.

The hot line excludes roads in New York City, those owned privately or those owned by other cities, villages, towns or counties.

You can help to keep our travel safer and smoother by contacting 1.800.POTHOLE whenever you see a hazard.
