Cindy Hansen, postmaster of the Eagle Bay Post Office, will officially retire from the United States Postal Service on Friday, January 31st.
Hansen has been employed by the postal service for the past 25 years—20 of them at the Eagle Bay office where she got her start. However, from time to time she could also be seen filling in at the Raquette Lake, Inlet, Old Forge, Thendara and Forestport facilities.
Hansen was honored by friends and neighbors with gatherings at The Tavern and Hard Times Café on Tuesday, January 21, and will meet with fellow postal employees for a farewell dinner on Saturday, January 25th.
Following her retirement, she said she will take some time for herself and figure out what her next step will be to keep busy. One thing for sure, she said, is that she will be pursuing work that will enable her to continue to work with people.
“I have enjoyed every minute of the job. It’s going to be hard to leave all the people I have gotten to know and become friends with. They have been my family for the last 25 years, and I will miss them,” she said.
