New ADK travel app to enhance the visitor experience park-wide

A group of Adirondack Region organizations have partnered to develop a concise inventory of recreational opportunities in the Adirondack Park that will be made available through a comprehensive web portal and travel app.

They hope to launch the portal by the peak of the 2014 ski season.

The Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages (AATV), in partnership with the Capital Region’s Center for Economic Growth (CEG), the Central Adirondack Partnership for the 21st Century (CAP-21), and the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council (ARTC)—the officially designated region for the I LOVE NY Tourism Campaign—are currently working to compile an inventory of tourism amenities and opportunities available in the Adirondack Park.

The portal adopts strategies developed by the Adirondack Partnership’s Adirondack Park Recreation Strategy Group (APRSG) and was identified as a regional priority project by the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.

The project will directly support key aspects of the strategic plans developed by the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, and North Country Regional Economic Development Councils, contributing to investment, sustainability and revitalization within the North Country, Capital Region and the Mohawk Valley regions.

Funding for the project is being provided by a Regional Economic Development Council “Market NY” grant from Empire State Development, the State’s chief economic development agency, as well as from the Center for Economic Growth.

The project’s main goals are to provide an avenue for Adirondack Park communities to connect their recreation, lodging, dining and other assets to a large audience, while providing the user a pleasurable experience that inspires travel to the Adirondacks and acts as a resource while visiting.

The recreation web portal will be accessible via a web platform on the adaptive website, ARTC’sVisitAdirondacks.com, and the AATV’s enhanced recreation app will be available for download on Android and iPhone.

These tools will provide the traveler with extensive recreational and supporting data about the Adirondack Park to enhance their travel experience. Lake Placid-based digital marketing agency Adworkshop is overseeing the data collection and mapping, development, and design on behalf of the AATV and partnering organizations.
