Former Old Forge resident, Patrick McCann, 73, passes away

Patrick “Skull” McCann, 73, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he later lived in Old Forge from 1973 until 2001, and greatly enjoyed his retirement in New Smyrna Beach, FL, where he loved his afternoons with his many friends at Beachside Tavern, Peanuts and Moe’s.Pat McCann

Pat, a graduate of Pace University in New York City, was employed as an accountant by Conorada Petroleum, Amerada Petroleum and Gulf & Western in New York City, and later by the USPS and Helmer’s Fuel in Old Forge until his retirement in 2001.

The McCann family owned McCann’s Corner, a candy and news store in Old Forge, from 1974 until 1988.

“Skull” was also an avid sports fan. The TOW Bar Inn in Old Forge placed a bottle of Miller High Life by Pat’s favorite chair in his memory.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Hartigan McCann, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; daughter Kathleen McCann (Kurt) Klaiber, and granddaughter, Maureen of LeRoy, NY, and daughter Bridget McCann (Harry Johnson) of Huntingdon Valley, PA.

He is also survived by his brother, John (Rita) McCann, of Orlando, FL; sister, Frances (Al) Wieder, of Yonkers, NY; sister-in-law, Barbara Hartigan, of Brackney, PA; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary McCann, and his sister, Kathleen.

Per the family’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations to Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA), P.O. Box 25, Old Forge, NY 13420 or Hospice of Old Forge  at Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413, be considered.
