With a day full of fun for kids from near and far—Adirondack Kids Day in Inlet hosted its 2nd Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, October 5th. Forty-one children—22 girls and 19 boys—showed up for the event with fishing on their minds.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the kids were boated out to a lucky fishing spot on Fourth Lake. Secret lures, floating bobbers, winning worms and the zing of a successful cast were drowned out by participants’ vocal enthusiasm, also known as squeals of pleasure.
Several children were inspected and found guilty of ants in their pants, hook removal from the pant region and wiping hands on their pants and not the lucky fishing towel…and still, it was all good.
Fifty-three fish were caught and successfully released. Dylan Rastley won the Caught the Most Fish Prize with a whopping final tally of 14.
Janissa Saur won the prize for Kissing the Most Fish—yep, 4. And to make sure everyone knew she was fearless with her kissing, she topped off the day by kissing a goat. (Please help me with reminding all her future boyfriends of this.)
In the Boys ages 0 to 6 category, Nicholas Reeve won with a 9” Fall Fish. Anthony Miga caught a 7.75” Perch to come away with second place.
In the Girls ages 0 to 6 contest, Kathryn Rastley caught a 6.5” Sunfish for first place and Brenna Lynn Marleau locked up second place with a 5.25” Perch.
In the Boys ages 7 to 12 category, Dawson Rastley netted first place with a Bass at 8.25”.
Keeping it in the family, brother Dylan Rastley came away with second place catching a 7.5” Sunfish.
In the Girls ages 7 to 12 contest, Chelsea Clark won first place with a 9.5” Sunfish.
She also won Largest Fish of The Day with her Monster 9.5” Sunfish. Kasia Glitz won second place with her 8.5” Perch.
Other activities kept the kids on the go too.
There were domestic animals—a few with scales—to pet, take a picture with and ride.
There was a Magic Show, learning to draw instructions, and face decorating and painting.
Kids learned about canoes and kayaks, the great outdoors and hiking, knot tying, falcon facts, owls, animal workshops…and on and on as there was much to do.
