Forestport Twin Bridges officially open with town-wide celebration

Under clear skies, the Town of Forestport celebrated the official opening and ribbon cutting of the new Twin Bridges leading into downtown on Sunday, September 29th.

Terry Larkin cut the ribbon after a blessing by Father Sean O’Brien, pastor of Christ Our Hope Parish and Aggie Walker, commissioned lay pastor of the Forestport Presbyterian Church.

The ceremony was followed by a parade led by the Forestport Fire Department pulling the 1891 newly refurbished pumper for a “wetting down” ceremony as the Twin Bridges christening.

Members of the community followed with Model T’s and a wide variety of classic cars, Royanne Sprowell and Jeannie Wolcott representing OLD FORESTPORT DAYS, Beth Abelbeck’s Girl Scout Troop #2, Bruce Prendergast, representing the biking community, Resistance MC, led by Jason Carson, and Abby Scouten riding her horse which represents the past and the future of Forestport.

There was live music all afternoon complements of Terry Johnson’s Funk and Brew Band, Above the Dam and the Liberty Band with refreshments by the Forestport Diner.

Area children also participated in a Bridge Drawing Contest.
