Service set for Maurice E. Waldron, 88

Maurice E. Waldron 88, of Raquette Lake passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 18, 1925 in Raquette Lake a son of the late Darious and Minnie (Hunt) Waldron. He served his country with honor during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps where he served two tours of duty.

On September 19, 1950 at Niccolls Church in Old Forge he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dunay a blessed union of almost 50 years. Mrs. Waldron died in August of 2000.

Mr. Waldron was employed with the State Of New York at Pine Knot in Raquette Lake retiring after many years of dedicated service. He was a well known and respected builder of many camps and homes on Raquette Lake. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and his work was second to none.

He was a member of the National America Legion and was a life time member of the Raquette Lake Fire Department.

He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and raising beagles as hunting dogs. He also was a hunting guide in the Adirondack and led many on great hunting expeditions all throughout the Adirondacks.

 He also enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of pine furniture for his family and friends. He was a hard worker, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a great sense of humor and was very quick-witted.

He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Bortle of Raquette Lake, a grandson Seth Bortle and a granddaughter Elizabeth A. Bortle both of Raquette Lake. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Nancyann Waldron Desonia and a son Joseph Waldron.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mr. Waldron’s home at 113 2nd Ave. in Raquette Lake with the Rev. James Ulrich officiating.
