Primaries: Snead wins unofficial tally, to represent Republicans as supervisor candidate in November

Republican primary elections were held locally in the Towns of Forestport and Long Lake on Tuesday, September 10th. All results are unofficial pending the receipt of absentee ballots.

In the Town of Forestport race for Supervisor, Parker Snead received 171 votes to incumbent William A. Hasenauer’s 157 for a total of 328 votes cast. Snead got 52.13% of the vote to Hasenauer’s 47.87%.

Hasenauer will remain on the November ballot as the Conservative party candidate.

For Highway Superintendent, incumbent William G. Gardner took 55.62% of the vote over Louis J. Sowich who received 44.07%. Gardner received 183 votes, Sowich took 145, and with one write-in there was a total of 329 votes.

In the race for two seats on the town council, Ronald J. Scouten received 245 votes (38.70%), Charles E. Scott had 177 votes (27.96%), Brian J. Albert had 113 (17.85%) and Brian P. Judge had 95 votes (15.01%.)

There were also three write-ins for a total of 633 votes cast.

According to Rose Marie Grimaldi, Republican Commis-sioner for the Oneida County Board of Elections, nine of the ten absentee ballots sent out have been received. Official recanvassing begins on Tuesday, September 17th.

“Barring any issues or court orders we expect to have the official results by the end of next week,” Grimaldi said.

In the Town of Long Lake, the two town council seats went to incumbents Lew A. Plumley with 61 votes and Dean H. Pohl with 63 votes. Challenger John W. Adams received 47 votes.

Adams will be on the general ballot as independent in November as well as additional challenger Thomas Donnelly, also running as independent.

In the race for Town Clerk/Tax Collector, incumbent Dixie Lee Le Blanc took the win with 68 votes over challenger Colleen E. Smith who received 35 votes. Smith filed independent and will be on the general ballot in November.

Also on the general ballot in November in the Town of Long Lake will be Charles H. Farr II, representing both the Democrat and the Bull Moose Party, running for Superintendent of Highways. Republican Clark J. Seaman is running for Town Supervisor.

There were no primaries held in the Towns of Webb and Inlet.

On the general ballot in November for the Town of Inlet, Democrat Michael J. Marleau is running for Town Justice, Democrat Patricia M. Wittmeyer is running for Town Clerk. Republican John B. Frey is running for Town Supervisor.

Republican Shawn R. Hansen is running for Superintendent of Highways. Republican Herbert W. Schmid is running for Councilperson “Seat A”, Republican Timothy P. Brownsell is running for Councilperson “Seat B”, and Republican Linda D. Nelson is running for Town Tax Collector. All of these candidates are running unopposed.

On the general ballot for the Town of Webb—and also running unopposed—will be Supervisor Theodore C. Riehle Jr., Council-woman Kate Russell, Councilman Michael Ross, Town Clerk Nanci T. Russell, Superintendent of Highways Casey Crofut and Tax Collector Kelly Hunkins.
