Old Forge Library to host author’s event on Sept. 17

Paul Kocak, an author from Syracuse, will offer a poetry workshop and book discussion at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, September 17th. Students, book discussion groups and community members are invited to take part.

A Le Moyne College grad, Kocak has enjoyed a varied career, including high school English teacher, newspaper copy editor, textbook editor, technical writer, web content developer, and marketing professional.

Four of his haiku poems have been featured in the Syracuse Poster Project, a public art collaboration.

He is the author of “Baseball’s Starry Night: Reliving Major League Baseball’s 2011 Wild Card Night of Shock and Awe” and “World Serious: One San Francisco Giants Fan’s 2012 Pilgrimage” a mix of memoir, travelogue, and sports history.

Most recently, he published Tipp Hill Litanies, a tribute in poetry and prose that honors Syracuse’s historic Tipperary Hill neighborhood.

From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Kocak will read from and discuss his writings with a question and answer period following.

A book signing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Kocak will lead a haiku workshop, “Poetry as Seeing” from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

This author’s event is funded by New York State Council on the Arts: the Literature Program.
