VIEW: Painting, party, auction to highlight the weekend’s Plein Air

More than 40 artists will come to the area over Labor Day weekend for View’s 5th Annual Plein Air Paint Out.

Beginning on Friday, August 30, artists from all over New York and the north east will come to paint the scenes, landmarks and characters found in Old Forge and its surrounding communities.

A preview party held on Saturday offers an opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists and take a sneak peak at their artwork that will be auctioned on Sunday. Tickets are $15 for non-members and $10 for members. The party begins at 4:30 p.m. and also includes food, beverages and live music by Monk Rowe.

Winners of the silent auction of six Adirondack chairs will be announced at the event.

At Sunday’s auction, a big basket of prizes worth over $1,750 will go to the person who wins a “Lei and Play” game at the party/auction. Leis will be used as tickets to play the game and can be purchased for $20.

Contents of the basket include: One free month of yoga classes, a family membership at View, two tickets to the galleries, two tickets to Bistro and the Galleries 2013, two tickets to Hoofbeats 2014, two tickets to The Secret Garden tour 2014, an original painting by Joyce Hanson, a View apron, tote bag and ceramic mug, a Hoofbeats mug, catalogs to 2013 Pastel and Watercolor shows and two hand-thrown ceramic trays.

View is located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge. More information about the Paint Out and other events, programs or exhibits can be found at Viewarts.org, or by calling (315) 369-6411.
