An open letter to Forestport voters Candidate Sowich looking to improve department

September 10th is fastly approaching, and you the voters have to decide in this all important primary election who you would like to see as your next Highway Superintendent.

I have no other endorsement from any other political party. I made several calls to Republican party, the Independence party, as well as the Conservative party to seek endorsement during the signature process to be screened, but to no avail.

I didn’t as much as receive a courtesy call from any one of them indicating yay or nay. So the time for affirmative action is now. I am on the outside looking in.

Seems that the Forestport highway employees are throwing their support behind current superintendent Bill Gardner. Why wouldn’t they after reading my article, in which I stated that I would work with them on a daily basis when time allows and would also try to save the town money on wasted overtime that could be used somewhere else in the budget to possibly accomplish something  that needs attention.

Personally, I think they should have remained neutral. That being said, why do you think that none of the highway employees elected to run for that position? They like the fact that Bill is not on the job all day and they are not being pushed to their fullest potential.

That in itself should open some taxpayers’ eyes as to the enormous amount of overtime being paid. Our roads are good in the winter but there is much more to factor in.

There are three other short seasons that we have as well. Things need to be done in a timely fashion during this time but are being ignored. I live three doors down from the highway garage. When I’m home, I see certain employees driving up and down the road all day long doing absolutely nothing but burning up fuel and wearing out the vehicles and getting paid very well I might add, when they could be down sweeping up the sand and stones that have gathered up on the intersections and may cause injury or damage to one’s self or personal property.

Or maybe trimming the grass that’s three feet tall around all the street signs and utility poles throughout our town. There is always something to do whether it be a small job or a large one.

A lot of  taxpayers don’t get to see this or any other thing that might be going on because most of us work. I would like to see more pride and care taken in all of Forestport.

We all have our own personal identity as far as the towns go, including Otter Lake, White Lake, and Woodgate. We are all unique in our own way, and that sets us apart from one another, but one thing still remains. We are all still one town that deserves the very best from our present leadership.

If elected I would stick by my principles of Honesty, Integrity, and Hard work. Those values are what we have all been raised on, and we try to instill those values on to our children for they are our future here.

The days of the free ride are hopefully coming to an end and I think that scares some people. New representation and fresh ideas—that’s what’s needed. Let’s come together as a United Community and show your support for a change that is greatly needed, for there is no tomorrow, the time is now.

Thank you.

Louis Sowich, Candidate

Forestport Highway Sup’t
