View: Cory Card to be new exhibitions manager

Jennifer Potter-Hayes, executive director of View, has announced that Cory Card of Rochester has been selected to fill the permanent position as View’s Exhibitions Manager.

Card comes to View with a great background in exhibitions, said Potter-Hayes.

He has a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology and has worked at the George Eastman House in Rochester and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo preparing material for exhibitions.

An artist himself, Card has also taught drawing and design at the university level.

“He has a great arts network,” Potter-Hayes said.

Card is familiar with the North Country, having grown up in Central Square, north of Syracuse, and vacationing in Old Forge as a child. He said his parents have been coming up to snowmobile in Old Forge for a number of years.

As exhibitions manager, Card will decide on the pieces that will be displayed in the galleries, keep View’s artist network going, and be responsible for the programming at the galleries—including artist talks.

He will officially begin his work at View on August 29, however he will have the opportunity to meet the public when he attends the opening reception for the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors on Friday, August 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. He will also be present at the gallery walkabout on Saturday, August 17th.

Card will replace Wende Carr who has been acting as interim exhibitions manager for the past three months during the busy summer season.

“Wende has been terrific. With very little instruction she was able to do a wonderful job,” Potter Hayes said.

Employment of Card and Carr will overlap for a week to facilitate the transition.

View anticipates filling another position, that of Marketing Manager, shortly after Labor Day. That position has been vacant since June.

Potter-Hayes said there was a great pool of applicants for both positions.
