Jan Brynilsen memoir chronicles life at Brynilsen’s Viking Village

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJan Brynilsen recently published a memoir, Third Story View: Legacy of an Adirondack Hotel, which recounts over 50 years of running Brynilsen’s Viking Village with her husband Rolf Brynilsen.

The book is named for the 25 years the couple lived on the third floor of the hotel before building their own chalet on the lake, and tells the story of the people, traditions and the place that became its legacy.

Brynilsen, a retired teacher who taught elementary school in Rochester and Rome for 25 years, said writing the book was something she always wanted to do.

And with help from her editor Ann Kent and her time with the writer’s group in Old Forge she turned her memoirs into a book.

The forward of the book was written by Heidi Mittaga, a former student and Viking Village guest.

The book is currently available for sale for $10 at Viking Village and the Adirondack Reader in Inlet or by calling Jan at (315) 357-3150.

Jan will be available to sign copies of her book at the Adirondack Reader in Inlet on Sunday, July 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.

She will also be present at the Old Forge Library’s Authors’ Fair that will take place on the Forge Knoll on Tuesday, July 23 from 1 to 4 p.m.
